Welcome to Taos Cyclery

Taos Cyclery is a full service bike shop located in the heart of New Mexico’s Enchanted Circle. We offer a complete selection of road, mountain, BMX, cruisers, comfort and children’s bikes by Giant and Raleigh.

We understand the needs of our customers as well as the local trails and road routes. Whether you are looking for a new bike or a local group ride we’ve got you covered.

Taos Cyclery is located on the corner of Paseo del Cañon and Salazar Road, 1/2 mile west of Paseo del Pueblo Sur. It's owned and operated by Doug Pickett and Chad Welch, both of which are experienced mechanics, knowleageable salespeople and most importantly, active cyclists.

HERE IT IS!! The South Boundary Trail is open!!! Cleaning crews have gone from Garcia Park east towards Angel Fire and west towards Taos. The word is that there could be snow patches in corners and along the north face of The Eliot Barker Trail, also known as 70 to One. However, it should be passable. If you're looking for wildlife, hit some unused stuff. I've seen two bears, a wild turkey, and grazing elk this spring. The Cross Country Trail/Woodpile is open!! This is a fun, challenging, fast ride in one of the most beautiful parts of the forest. Most of this ride is at or above 10,000 feet. Riders will definitely need a map and tips on this one. Everything from the foothills to the Rio Grande Gorge are open. This includes The Talpa Traverse along the foothills of the Carson Forest just south of town; The Taos Overlook Trail, The West Rim Trail, and Horse Thief Trail all along the Rio Grande Gorge. The Talpa Traverse is the most technical with Horse Thief a close second. The Overlook and West Rim Trails are beginner to intermediate and scenic. We climbed South Boundary Trail and were able to complete the Ojitos Loop. This is a three hour loop. A good alternative route is Trail 18 to Bear Wallow and up about two miles. There riders will come to a saddle marked by a lone tree in a meadow and rocks stacked in the road. Leave the main road here and follow this alternate route down some hair raising descending, but short lived, to Forest Road 437 or Rio Chiquito. This is one of many Taos Rides Off the Map rides. Good Luck!!

The winds have been crazy strong this spring which makes road riding a chore. Start early and carry wind gear such as a jacket, arm and leg covers, and something to cover the ears to block out noise. Good road rides this time of year are US Hill to Sipapu and back, Questa out and back, and the Great Taos Loop. Call or email for details on any of these rides. The roads in and around town took a serious beating this winter. So much so that one group said drafting wasn't possible due to the potholes.

The racing season should be good this year. Team Fitaos should be a contender at most events this season. Go to www.fitaos.org for team updates. The TA-to-TP Road Race will be as beautiful as ever after a wet winter. Frazer Mountain Madness has moved to the end of July to hopefully get a better turnout.
